Elon Musk’s so-called Department of Government Efficiency is one of the most dangerous and unaccountable power grabs in modern U.S. history.
Given free rein by Donald Trump to gut federal agencies, cancel critical programs, and eliminate government contracts, Musk is operating outside the bounds of traditional oversight, wielding massive influence over key government functions with no Senate confirmation, no transparency, and no accountability.
As Senator Bernie Sanders put it during a recent committee hearing, “let’s bring in the real secretary. Mr. Chairman, I respectfully request that this committee bring Elon Musk before this committee so that we can really hear what’s going on with the government.”
Instead of cutting “waste,” Musk and his allies are weaponizing their power to dismantle essential government programs under the guise of efficiency. Public records and investigative reports reveal that Musk’s operation has already canceled contracts for social services, disaster relief, and infrastructure projects with little explanation.
His department has falsely accused federal agencies of corruption based on conspiracies and misleading figures, all while pushing to eliminate entire offices and programs that serve the public interest, including those focused on labor protections and climate research.
The Senate must not allow an unelected billionaire to dictate the fate of our government behind closed doors. We demand a full congressional investigation into Musk’s role and his reckless dismantling of federal agencies.
